Monarch Cove provides comprehensive professional eating disorder therapy for men and women with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and EDNOS. Clients receive unique, individualized care from their own personal triad of specialists: a primary therapist, dietician, and psychiatrist. Our clinical professionals are committed to this dedicated team approach, having seen a consistent impact on our clients’ lasting recovery from eating disorders. Each client receives therapy for eating disorders that best meets their unique needs. Monarch Cove views the eating disorder treatment process as a partnership. Our licensed clinicians and support staff provide a healing, supportive environment that is beneficial to each client’s journey. Both men and women suffer from eating disorders. Our eating disorder therapy and treatment specialists utilize professional expertise and understanding of gender differences, as well as the unique personal differences between each client, in providing care. Compassion and respect are core values at Monarch Cove. We utilize evidenced-based therapies along with innovative techniques, including cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, expressive and creative arts treatments, exposure/response prevention therapy, and other clinically proven effective modalities of care. Residential, partial hospitalization, and outpatient programs are offered at our eating disorder treatment facility.

Eating Disorder Therapy Requires Simultaneous Treatment of Co-occurring Disorders

Our clients often have underlying issues, such as anxiety, that cause or exacerbate their harmful eating behaviors. These are called co-occurring disorders, and require simultaneous treatment along with the individualized eating disorder therapy.  Co-occurring disorders (eating disorders combined with associated mental health issues) may or may not be diagnosed prior to a client coming to us for help. We identify and treat any co-occurring disorders, including:
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma related issues
  • Unresolved trauma
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Social phobia disorders
  • Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD)
  • Dysthymic disorder
  • Mood and anger issues
  • Unhealthy perfectionism behaviors
Concurrent therapy for eating disorders and psychological health intervention must occur simultaneously in order for healthy recovery to take place. Our expert clinicians integrate multiple modalities of treatment at the right time and intensity for each client. On-going evaluation of treatment is a key part of each unique care plan. Some clients also require assistance for associated substance abuse issues.

Specific Eating Disorder Therapy at Monarch Cove

At Monarch Cove, our central California eating disorder treatment facility, we provide an integrated eating disorder therapy and treatment program that offers each client a spectrum of evidence-based and innovative approaches that best meet their needs. Our anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa programs are staffed with eating disorder professionals who manage the medical complications present in the early treatment phase. By closely collaborating with each client, we gradually stabilize their weight and integrate the active recovery process. Our highly individualized and attentive therapy for eating disorders makes us one the most highly regarded on the west coast. We provide clients who have a binge eating problem a different therapeutic eating disorder treatment focus. Our skilled nutritionists and clinicians partner with each client, helping them understand what is at the root of their detrimental eating behavior. We institute specific care modalities (such as cognitive behavioral therapy) to help them achieve control over binging and purging. During this process, we teach clients how to approach food and eating in an enjoyable, but moderate way. EDNOS, or Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified, means that someone has features of several kinds of eating problems, but does not fall into one exact category. This can make treatment complicated, but Monarch Cove’s eating disorder treatment team has extensive experience with EDNOS patients. From medical stabilization to multiple treatment approaches, our clients have their eating, psychological and relationship issues identified and addressed. Most eating disorder treatment centers say that they offer individualized care, when in fact they have only one standard track for all clients. Our eating disorder therapy and treatment process at Monarch Cove is absolutely individualized for each client. We develop a completely unique treatment plan for each client. Fully customized care plans integrate personalized goals, objectives and assignments for each client. In addition, our highly experienced staff has specific training in different modalities, so that we can address each client’s own specific constellation of symptoms, as well as any existing co-occurring disorders. We have the time and knowledge to develop our clients strengths, giving them confidence in their recovery skills.

Men and eating disorder therapy at Monarch Cove

Our expert staff understands that men with eating disorders have underlying problems that can be very different from those affecting women. Individualized treatment plans address these differences, as well as co-occurring disorders that may also be present with the eating disorder.
Guided, challenged, and supported. We make the healing process of recovery personal for each of our clients.
